The goal of Design Play With Scratch is to introduce students from 6th, 7th, and 8th grade to computer programming, user interaction, and software architecture. Students will transform their designs from pen and paper prototypes to functional online applications. Students will use their imagination to create playable computer games and share those games with their peers. The course will use Scratch (, a technology framework for creating games, interactive videos, and applications. It includes a painting program, sound recording program, and intuitive programming blocks which help make computer programming accessible to students. Using Scratch students will learn to use to create interactive software applications.

Skills students will learn are valuable for:

Classes consist of short lectures followed by hands on learning projects. Peer and teacher feedback will help students evaluate and re-design applications in iterative design processes. My hope is that this course will inspire students to pursue computer science and design, have fun, and develop their imagination.

Classes start September 8. Class meets at 10am-11am weekly at the CHC on Wednesdays.
